Freaky Fruit
Learn how to use layers in the quick and easy Beginner Photoshop Tutorial.
-
Find and open your photos in Photoshop.
-
Use one of the SELECTION TOOLS to select the eyes. You can add to selections by choosing ADD TO (HOLD SHIFT) or SUBTRACT FROM (HOLD ALT) in the OPTION BAR. If you are using the newest version of Photoshop (2020) try SELECT>SELECT SUBJECT.
-
Once your eyes are selected, grab your move tool. Click on the eyes and drag them onto the tab of your other photo.
-
With the MOVE TOOL selected, in the OPTION BAR, make sure AUTO SELECT AND TRANSFORM CONTROLS are checked.
-
You can resize or edit the eyes by clicking on a corner of the TRANSFORMATION CONTROLS and dragging. You can also rotate by going outside the box at the corner until you get a curved arrow. DO NOT touch the center point of the transformation controls. The controls the center of your rotation and will not move the item. Apply your transformation by double clicking.
-
If at any time you make a mistake or don’t like what you’ve done you can use CTRL Z to go back or locate the HISTORY panel and go back one or multiple steps.
-
Add at least 2 more details to your freaky fruit like a mouth, arms or hair by following the steps above.
-
Each time you add a feature to your fruit you are adding a new LAYER. LAYERS are like stickers that you can stick ON TOP of your background photo.
-
If you want to draw into your drawing, create a NEW LAYER by clicking on the folded paper icon next to the garbage can in the LAYER PANEL. Drag that layer up to the top of the LAYERS PANEL so it's the first layer. Use the brush tool to draw details into that layer.
