Illustrated Word
Create a themed composition that incorporates text and imagery.
This piece will include the following layers. All layers should support a central theme or idea.

Create a new document for print. Change the orientation to LANDSCAPE. FILE NEW>PRINT>CREATE.

Find a texture that you can use as the ‘background’ in your new document. Make sure it is large in size and resolution.

Download a new font from www.dafont.com. Once installed you have to unzip the file and move the TTF or OTF file to a place you can locate later, like your google drive. To install the font in Photoshop, double click on the file to load it onto your computer, choose the Text tool and choose your font by searching or finding it in the option bar or text panel.

Download a new brush from www.brushking.eu or www.brusheezy.com. Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped your brush, click on the ABR file to place it somewhere you can locate later, like your google drive. To use the brush in Photoshop double click on the file and it will automatically be added to your brushes panel. Choose brush options in the brush panel or option bar.

Search for 2 other items you can add to your composition to go with your theme. Select and move those items into your composition.

Experiment with LAYER MODES and LAYER STYLES on at least one or all of your layers. Experiment with the order of the layers too!

If you make a mistake or don’t like what you’ve done you can use CTRL Z to go back or locate the HISTORY panel and go back in your history.

Experiment with a few different options and orders of layers. You never know what kind of cool effects you will find!
